Entry #9 Airplanes

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8do9mbA/ It's important to approach discussions about sensitive topics with empathy and understanding. However, it's also essential to consider the practicalities and limitations of air travel. While it's understandable that individuals with obesity may face challenges in fitting into a single seat comfortably, the concept of requesting multiple seats on planes raises several concerns. Airline seat sizes are designed to accommodate the average passenger, and allocating multiple seats to one individual would compromise the limited space available on a plane. This could result in overbooking or multiply uncomfortable passengers if one person feels the need to be granted multiple seats. Furthermore, implementing a policy of providing multiple seats to obese individuals could result in added complexity and potential discrimination issues. Trying to determine who qualifies for extra seats based on weight or size could raise questions about fairness. ...

Entry #8: Communication Styles

Image
So recently, I've been learning a lot in my communications class when it comes to individual relationships. We had to do a project that included interviewing different people in different relationships with us and observing how the communication in each varied.       The first interview comes from my husband. We have been together for a total of 3 years and married for 6 months. Towards the beginning of our relationship, communication completely circled and flowed through our bond. We were a long distance couple for a few months before deciding to move closer together. During those months apart, we talked every day for hours. These conversations seemed pretty endless, like we could talk forever, but they slowly started to fade. As we grew older and more serious, so did the conversations. We came to realize that the seriousness of life began to outweigh the fun we used to focus on.      My friend Abbie and I have ...

Entry #5: Mayhem

Image
Tailgater :30 | Allstate Mayhem - YouTube       The Allstate Mayhem campaign was a marketing strategy using many rhetorical methods to pull in new customers. The slogan was to enroll in Allstate Insurance to "protect yourself from mayhem". Specifically, the "Tailgater" episode was constructive.     The commercial starts out with the character "Mayhem" driving to a tailgate party while also physically tailgating the car in front of him. This scene sparks some humor with the ironic situation but also creates personalization because a majority of people have all experienced similar types of annoying traffic incidents. It may bring up old memories or familiar feelings about these situations. In circumstances like this, it is very common to watch through the rearview mirror to check the status of your car with someone else in close proximity.      The commercial implies that because you are watching through the rearview mirror, you ...

Entry #6: Conflict Style

Image
Lately, my partner and I have been discussing our ways of handling conflict as I am not the best at this. It has taken a lot of communication but learning your conflict style can happen drastically when it comes to the overall health in a relationship and being able to work out contentious spots. I took a conflict style quiz and went through my results. My conflict style tied with Avoiding and Accommodating, and I agree with the results I was given. The avoidance conflict style is characterized by people's tendency to avoid or ignore conflicts instead of immediately dealing with them. With this strategy, people often prefer to reduce or completely avoid disagreements, arguments, and other forms of conflict. Individuals with an accommodating conflict management style put the needs and concerns of others above their own. They work to promote peace and protect relationships, frequently putting aside their own preferences and ideas in order to respect those of others. This is somethi...

Entry #4: Love Language

Image
Recently in my communications class, we've been learning about the different types of love languages and how to communicate them with ourselves and loved ones. These love languages include words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts. We were assigned a test to take to help identify ours personally. The love language that came from my results was physical touch. I agree with the results, but to me, it is very interesting to think about. In previous relationships, physical touch was often the last thing to be a focus of mine. I didn’t find it appealing. Things like handholding, hugs, and small touches, were not something I felt the need to receive or reciprocate. But over the course of the past few years, I have learned the importance of understanding and growing in my love language with myself and my partner.  I personally believe that love languages can change from partner to partner. In my last relationship, I was more attracted to acts...

Entry #3 Mint

Image
Your hand feels cool and smooth, giving away the refreshing delight that awaits within. A pleasant crinkling noise that sounds like paper rustling fills the air as you carefully grab the little metallic package and pop open the small lid. You unwrap the tissue paper on the inside to reveal a tiny, round goodie with a chalky surface. Its color can range from a light shade resembling winter frost to a pure white that conveys a sense of cleanliness. The compact appearance carries a simple style that tempts you to indulge. When you put the confection in your mouth, it slides across your tongue and lips with ease. It may slowly disintegrate with simplicity, leaving a path of flavor for your senses. Other times, it breaks up into little pieces with a pleasing bite, creating a satisfying crunch that resonates within your mouth. The indulgence gradually reveals its flavor - a refreshing burst that awakens your senses. It provides a crisp, clean flavor that triggers or occasionally overlo...
