Entry #9 Airplanes

It's important to approach discussions about sensitive topics with empathy and understanding. However, it's also essential to consider the practicalities and limitations of air travel. While it's understandable that individuals with obesity may face challenges in fitting into a single seat comfortably, the concept of requesting multiple seats on planes raises several concerns.
Airline seat sizes are designed to accommodate the average passenger, and allocating multiple seats to one individual would compromise the limited space available on a plane. This could result in overbooking or multiply uncomfortable passengers if one person feels the need to be granted multiple seats.
Furthermore, implementing a policy of providing multiple seats to obese individuals could result in added complexity and potential discrimination issues. Trying to determine who qualifies for extra seats based on weight or size could raise questions about fairness.
I personally believe that if an extra seat is wanted, it should be paid for. While I understand obesity has many causes, I think most of the time it is a controllable factor that shouldn’t necessarily be completely accommodated for.
I feel that this is a growing concern in Westernized countries as fast food and heavily processed foods become more and more available leading to higher obesity rates.
Hi Alyssa. I agree with you about the extra seats. While it could help meet the needs for the obese people, it could cause other problems like limited space. I also agree with you that the increase in obesity rates is an issue that needs more awareness. Great work.
